The Project

Scope of work

Installing the air handlers affects three locations. Each area needs its own carpentry to house the equipment and provide access, plus drywall repair where electrical is run.

Above the closet

  • Extend the closet and frame in a sheetrock wall up to the beams
  • Add an access panel and ceiling support
  • Run a new floor for the air handler

Master bedroom

  • Build a platform for the air handler
  • Sheetrock the sides and shiplap the underside to match the ceiling
  • Add an access panel in the upstairs twin bedroom

Basement

  • Master Plumbing cuts a channel for electrical
  • We patch and repair the channel that was cut

Above the closet

Closet

  • Extend closet floor out 4–6 in. to make room for the air handler
  • Build sheetrock wall up to the beams
  • Add access panel to beam
  • Add support to closet ceiling
  • Run new floor for the air handler

Master bedroom

Platform

  • Build a platform for the air handler
  • Sheetrock the platform into the master bedroom, maintaining consistency with the look there
  • Add shiplap to the bottom of the platform to match the ceiling look
  • Add an access panel into the twin bedroom upstairs

Basement

Channel patch

  • Master Plumbing will create a channel for electrical
  • We are responsible for patching and repairing the channel that was cut

Walkthrough III

Jeff from Master Plumbing does not get this correct. We're not building a whole sloped wall that matches the beam that's there because we don't want to enclose that whole space. We're going to build a shelf higher up with enough area to hold the air handler. The bottom of that shelf will be ship-lapped to match the other ceiling. The sides will be sheet rocked, and the access panel will go into the bedroom upstairs. There will be no access panel in the master bedroom.
